Our Healing Partners

BRCAC currently utilizes a robust collaboration through what we call several “Healing Partnerships” in order to expand opportunities for vulnerable or at-risk youth and their families, deliver cost-effective well-coordinated services and avoid duplication of effort.

For the past nine years, we have been working with several branches of law enforcement, DCFS, the Mayor’s Office, the Coroner’s office, and other community providers to identify victims of traumatic events as well as to identify potential gaps in service for disadvantaged children and to coordinate care. We meet weekly with the following providers to staff all new cases to ensure this coordination of care.

Law Enforcement Partners

Sheriff Offices and Police Departments, especially Special Victims Units,  in four parishes work closely with the BRCAC in addressing the problem of child abuse by referring victims of violent crime to the Center, by participating in weekly case reviews with the CAC team, by assisting the CAC in locating and engaging families when necessary and by attending events at the Center designed to educate survivors on the topic of investigation and the criminal justice process.

SOME OF OUR LAW ENFORCEMENT PARTNERS INCLUDE:

Addis Police Department

Baker Police Department

Baton Rouge City Police

Brusly Police Department

EBR Sheriff’s Office

Iberville Sheriff’s Office

Livonia Police Department

Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement

Louisiana State Police

Plaquemines Police Department

Pointe Coupee Sheriff’s Office

Port Allen Police Department

West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office

Zachary Police Department

Medical and Hospital Partners

The EBR Coroner’s Office Sexual Assault and Nurse Examiners (SANE) Program , OLOL hospitalists and area pediatricians participate in weekly case reviews, refer survivors to the CAC when encountered initially in medical settings, and provide forensic medical exams that are coordinated with the forensic interview process occurring at the BRCAC.  Our future plan is to have this service provided onsite at the yellow house.

SOME OF OUR MEDICAL PARTNERS INCLUDE:

District Attorney Partners

Prosecutors in four parishes participate in weekly reviews, guide the process of investigation determining what components may be needed to strengthen cases;  District Attorney offices also provide critical victim advocacy services which are coordinated with the Advocacy services of the CAC.  Our prosecutors also often collaborate with our team members in preparing testimony for criminal court.  The CAC team may provide expert witness testimony in child abuse cases.

SOME OF OUR DISTRICT ATTORNEY PARTNERS INCLUDE:

Child and Family Service Providers

Various local community providers collaborate with the BRCAC team in provided other needed services for families.  Through “linkage agreements” and Memorandums of Understanding, these agencies often participate in case discussion and work to coordinate care in such a way that services are not missed nor duplicated.

SOME OF OUR CHILD & FAMILY SERVICE PARTNERS INCLUDE:

Child Protective Services

The Louisiana Department of Child and Family Services in four parishes work closely with the BRCAC in addressing the problem of child abuse by referring victims of violent crime to the Center, by participating in weekly case reviews with the CAC team, by assisting the CAC in locating and engaging families when necessary and by attending events at the Center designed to educate survivors on the topic of investigation and the criminal justice process.  DCFS respond to our requests for assistance for families and invite BRCAC to policy meetings to ensure that policies develop in a trauma-informed way.
