The Baton Rouge Children’s Advocacy Center and its mission continues to grow and thrive in unprecedented ways. In 2017, families found sanctuary in our “yellow house,” as the children often refer to it, not only as a literal safe haven from harm but also as a place where the emotions, wounds and memories of trauma could be contained. And in this wondrous gift the Center provided to children, we, as a team and community of professionals and volunteers, also found healing from the wounds still there from the previous year’s natural disaster and community-wide civil unrest. As a native of Baton Rouge, I am so proud of the way that our City and our Center were able to transform tragedy into opportunity and growth. And, did we grow!
