Prevention Education

Community Education and Prevention

BRCAC provides community education and primary prevention in schools and other venues for children/teens, caregivers, and more recently to youth-serving providers such as: law enforcement, education, after-school programming, medical and mental health.

We provide this education because we understand that childhood trauma adverse experiences threatens the long-term physical and mental health of children all the way into adulthood, as established by the now famous “ACES Study.” Through this study, we help to teach adults early signs of trauma and to respond in ways that are trauma-informed in order to prevent the cycle from persisting.

Adult Focused Education

Darkness to Light

Known as a revolutionary sexual abuse prevention training program, Darkness to Light: Stewards of Children helps to educate adults on how to prevent, recognize and

react responsibly to child sexual abuse. The program believes and teaches that child safety is an adult’s job.

Internet Safety

Internet Safety classes educate parents & caregivers about how to recognize unsafe online situations children may face while using online gaming platforms, chat rooms, & social

media. Additionally, adults will learn about signs of cyber bulling, sexting, online grooming, & human trafficking, how to manage and add parental controls on devices, and what steps to follow if found in an unsafe online situation.

Child Focused Education

Speak Up Be Safe

A nationally accredited prevention program to educate youth in the community on ways to protect themselves from Bullying, Sexual Abuse, Physical Abuse and Neglect. This program helps to eliminate the abuse and neglect of children through education. This program is exceptionally important because education and awareness can mitigate abuse already in progress. Children often don’t understand that what is happening to them is wrong, and not their fault. This program is designed to offer information through puppet shows and videos and most importantly opens a safe discussion on healthy behaviors. For teens, it includes information on online safety and cyberbullying awareness. These programs may be provided in classrooms, where it meets the mandate for bullying prevention and sex abuse prevention and education, or in community settings.
