Imagine that you have witnessed your little brother being beaten to death. You are snatched up in the middle of the night by the police and you are very scared. Instead of the police station, you are taken to the Baton Rouge Children’s Advocacy Center to be interviewed. The Center is a home with comfortable furniture, age-appropriate toys, a stocked pantry and refrigerator, and people that care. You can’t go home anymore because both of your parents are in jail. A foster family takes you in but it’s not the same. How do you get through this trauma? You go back to the nice home and friendly people for therapy to help you understand the trauma and terrible things that have happened in your family. You feel safe and receive the help that you need to heal.
HOPE IS HERE at the Baton Rouge Children’s Advocacy Center!
We want to take this once–a-year opportunity to ask you to include the Baton Rouge Children’s Advocacy Center on your holiday giving list. The Center serves children who have been physically and/or sexually abused, provides a home-like setting for the forensic interview, works with the non-offending caregivers to find resources the family may need, and provides therapeutic counseling for the victims.
Research shows that children who receive treatment are much more likely to continue their education, develop positive relationships, and become productive citizens. Those victims that do not receive appropriate care are more likely to suffer academically and the potential to become a perpetrator also increases. Intervention is the vehicle needed to work towards putting a stop to the cycle of violence.
The Center exists as a community resource and depends on grant and community donations for its entire budget. ALTHOUGH WE ARE AUTHORIZED BY THE LOUISIANA LEGISLATURE, WE RECEIVE NO DIRECT STATE FUNDING. Our year-end appeal is especially important as it provides our only true discretionary funds allowing us the flexibility to meet individual client needs.
Please consider a tax deductible donation to help the Baton Rouge Children’s Advocacy Center help the children who are victims of violence in our community
