“Hand It On” Description

Do you know someone who could use a little lift?

Perhaps it’s someone who’s always taking time to help others before themselves, or a customer at an auto repair shop who couldn’t afford to pay the bill. Or maybe you’d like to help out a member of the military who serves his or her country but struggles financially. Well, here’s your chance! With the help of WAFB, you can “Hand It On”.

WAFB Street Beat Reporter Greg Meriwether’s is lead man for our inspiring series “Hand It On”. Here’s how it works: Each week, Greg gives someone $300. That person will then have to “Hand It On” by giving away the cash to someone who needs a little lift in life, or someone who’s done a great deed. There are only a few rules. You can’t give the cash to any of your relatives and our news cameras must be able to come along as you “Hand It On”.

WATCH “HAND IT ON” EACH TUESDAY NIGHT ON WAFB 9NEWS AT 10.

2011 Success Seminar was hosted by Pastor Jeffery and Wilma Phillips, along with the World Shakers Church International Family. This seminar was an absolute success and many throughout the congregation and community were provided with information regarding education, finance/credit, the judicial system and child sexual abuse prevention. All presenters are a part of World Shakers Church International. Presenters represented Remington College, Neighbors Credit Union, the Legal System and Baton Rouge Children’s Advocacy Center. As a result of this seminar, individuals have reportedly made life changing decisions.

According to Pastor Phillips, this seminar was only the beginning. His vision is to work with leaders in the community and begin to educate people on overcoming defeat, in their lives.

Advocate staff writer

Last year, 150 children who had been physically and/or sexually abused went through the doors of the Baton Rouge Children’s Advocacy Center (BRCAC), which serves East and West Baton Rouge, Iberville and Pointe Coupee parishes. The center is mandated by the state Legislature to bring together the investigative, judicial, social services and mental health agencies that respond to reports of child abuse so that the child has to tell his story only once.

To make sure BRCAC meets its $200,000 annual budget, it is holding its signature fundraiser Monday. The fifth annual “Celebrity Waiters Event — An All-Star Tailgate” at Walk-On’s Bistreaux & Bar Burbank location gets under way at 7 p.m. In addition to raising much needed funds, the evening will be a celebration of sorts. In February, BRCAC moved into its new headquarters. Read more >

BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The Baton Rouge Children’s Advocacy Center is a safe haven for abused children following one of the most traumatic experiences they could ever go through: physical or sexual abuse.

It’s here that law enforcement and counselors can talk with the kids in safe, child oriented environment.

Thanks to a donation from Todd Graves, the founder of Raising Cane’s, the center has a new therapy play room. This is where kids will be interviewed by law enforcement following allegations of abuse.

Gleening information from the victim is critical to move forward with the criminal proceedings. But the therapy that will take place in this room can ensure that the child is not impacted emotionally for the rest of their life.

The Graves aren’t just writing a check. Gwen, Todd’s wife, will bring in Cane the dog for some pet therapy with the kids and counselors.

Gwen Graves will be making herself and Cane available on an as needed basis when kids come to the center.

The Baton Rouge Advocacy Center is privately funded. Their biggest fundraiser is the Celebrity Waiter Event at Walk-On’s on July 11 from 7:00-9:00p.m. NBC33′s Tammi Arender will be a celebrity waiter. Come out and help support the center.

For ticket information you can log onto the Baton Rouge Children’s Advocacy Center website: www.batonrougecac.org.
